The Seton Hall Prep Pirates earned their first win of the season Saturday, Oct. 15, at Columbia in Maplewood, New Jersey.
The Prep couldn’t be stopped on offense, putting up 42 points in the game, 28 of which came in a dominant first half.
Freshman quarterback Matt Colantuono threw two touchdowns and ran one in, and Andrew Perez and Dwayne Warren caught a touchdown each. Michael Mughetto ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Head Coach Vito Campanile said the team has rallied behind senior leadership, and he’s excited about the team’s first win.
“I’m happy for these guys, happy for the seniors, and happy for the entire school right now,” Campanile said after the game. “We came out here and established ourselves, and we felt we were as good as any 0-5 team in the state, and I think we proved that today.”
The Prep’s defense also showed up in a big way, forcing two early turnovers and bringing an interception back for a touchdown.
Senior captain Paul Theobald said The Prep has worked hard all season, and it feels good to get a win under their belt.
“To finally get one in our favor feels really good, but we have to move past it just like we’ve moved past the losses,” Theobald said. “We have to keep working, watch film and get back to practice to prepare for next week.”
The Prep hosts DePaul Catholic Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. for a big home matchup in West Orange.
