Seton Hall Prep Football lost 19-7 at Pope John XXIII (Sparta) to fall to 0-4 on the season.
The Prep came out strong in the first quarter, taking a 7-0 lead off of Andrew Perez’ four-yard touchdown scramble.
Besides that score, The Prep struggled to find the endzone for the rest of the game.
Backup quarterback Aidan Gilman suffered an injury in last week’s practice, paving the way for freshman Matt Colantuono, who made his first career start on the road.
Colantuono completed 19-of-27 passes for 187 yards and one interception, and he did a nice job moving the football and putting The Prep in scoring position.
The Prep gave up a 13-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to even the score at seven going into the half.
Ultimately, though, The Prep wasn’t able to keep up with Pope John’s offense. A pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter would prove to be enough against Seton Hall, as the score remained 19-7 through the final whistle.
Senior Dwayne Warren had nine receptions for 72 yards and Boston College-bound linebacker Paul Theobald made 15 tackles in the Pirate’s loss.
