Construction Cost: $1 billion
The Barclays opened in 2012 as home to the Brooklyn Nets, formerly the New Jersey Nets, and now hosts New York Islander (NHL) games among other events as well. I went the first year it opened for the Nets in 2012, and unfortunately don’t have any pictures from my experience.
It was a nice arena and it’s in New York, which is always a plus if you’re looking to do some sightseeing, but naturally a negative in terms of traveling. I had no problem commuting from New Jersey thanks to NJ Transit, but I could see it being a pain for an outsider looking to visit for an away game.
The arena was nice, but the Nets are boring and until that changes, I wouldn’t visit the arena again. Unless an appealing away team comes to town, it’s not worth the trip.
